St. Charles Parish Hospital receives national award in patient experience

St. Charles Parish Hospital was recently named a 2020 Guardian of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey.

The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or above for performance in patient experience, employee or physician engagement or clinical quality performance. The honor is awarded annually and based on one year of data.

The hospital was awarded the Guardian of Excellence for Patient Experience in Medical Practice.

“The caregivers and staff of St. Charles Parish Hospital touch the lives of patients and their families in profound ways,” Press Ganey Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Ryan said. “This award reflects their deep commitment to listening to the voices of their patients and our shared mission to reduce suffering and improve the safety, quality and experience of patient-centered care.”

Luling’s St. Charles Parish Hospital is a 59-bed facility originally created as a service district hospital in 1959. Ochsner Health acquired the hospital in 2014.

“I continue to be humbled and inspired by their heroic efforts to care for patients in the face of the uncertainty, stress and fear brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ryan said of St. Charles Parish Hospital health care workers and employees. “Press Ganey is proud to partner with them in this noble work and we congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”

St. Charles Parish Hospital CEO Terrell Neal said the award represents an important recognition from the hospital industry’s leader in measuring, understanding and improving the delivery of care.

“I am incredibly proud of our team” Neal said. “They go above and beyond each day, under what can be stressful circumstances, to provide exemplary care for the members of our community.”
