Four out-of-towners were arrested Thursday night after they were caught removing a street sign by a detective who happened to be driving in the area.
The four men were trying to steal the Esperanza Plantation street sign shortly before 8 p.m. when a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office detective drove by and caught them in the act, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
None of the four men were from St. Charles Parish and only one lived in Louisiana. They are: Adam Weiss, 18, of 1014 Flora Ave. in Coronado, Calif.; Levi McDaniel, 22, of 404 Francis St. in Sterlington; Ethan Galsky, 19, of 17875 Collins Ave. in Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.; and Griffin Baig, 19, of 940 N. Euclin in Oak Park, Ill.
They were each charged with theft less than $750.
A few years ago, the theft of street signs across the parish was such a big problem that the St. Charles Parish Council actually increased the maximum fine for injuring, defacing or destroying parish property from $100 to $500.
