St. Charles Parish Courthouse reopens Monday, May 18

Following a nearly two-month closure due to coronavirus precautions, the St. Charles Parish Courthouse will reopen Monday, May 18.

“Beginning Monday, visits to the courthouse are not limited to appointment only, however a limited amount of people will be allowed in the courthouse,” parish Director of Communications Samantha de Castro said. “We are encouraging residents to continue to do as much as they can over the phone or via the internet during this time.”

Strict guidelines are in place for people who enter the courthouse, and officials said anyone attempting to enter in violation of the protocols will be denied entry by security.

Anyone who has been diagnosed with or has had contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 14 days is asked to not enter, as is anyone who has been advised to self-quarantine by any doctor, hospital or health agency. Also prohibited from entry is anyone exhibiting respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills or fatigue.

Everyone who enters the courthouse will be required to have their temperature taken, and anyone having a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater will be prohibited from entering the courthouse.

Everyone attempting to enter the courthouse or other public building will be required to bring and wear a facial mask or covering. Officials said masks will not be given out at the buildings.

De Castro said parish council meetings will again be open to the public, but the council chambers will only be able to hold 25% of its total occupancy, which does not allow for many people.

“The meetings will continue to be held virtually to ensure the public has the opportunity to participate in the meeting,” she said.

Officials said anyone who does not have a specific appointment or court-ordered appearance should contact the appropriate governmental department or court division prior to attempting to enter the courthouse.
