HAHNVILLE – “We want people to come up with great ideas for projects so we can celebrate the 200th birthday of St. Charles Parish for the entire year of 2007 in style,” says Corey Faucheux, director of the St. Charles Parish Department of Economic Development and Tourism. And if you’ve got some good ones, pick up the phone and call Faucheux at 985-783-5140 and let him hear what you’ve got in mind.

And even though the Parish will officially celebrate its bicentennial birthday on March 31, events to commemorate the milestone will take place throughout the year.

“At the Nov. 6 council meeting we will adopt a proclamation and kick off bicentennial events,” Faucheux, chairman of the St. Charles Parish Bicentennial Committee, told the Herald-Guide.

The committee consists of 15 members, and Faucheux says they are in the planning stages.

Here’s a preview of bicentennial events that already have been planned:

Thursday, Dec. 7 – Kick off celebration and tree lighting ceremony at West Bank Bridge Park.

Wednesday, March 14, 2007 – Annual Student Art Exhibit at St. Charles Parish School Board central office from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Friday, March 30, 2007 – Bicentennial Gala at Destrehan Plantation.

Saturday, March 31, 2007 – Birthday celebration at St. Charles Parish Courthouse.

Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 – Closing celebration and Norco Christmas parade.
