Speeding cited in car crash that killed 1

State Police Troop B investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred in the early morning hours near Ormond Meadows in Destrehan in which one of the cars involved was reported stolen an hour after the accident occurred.

The crash involved a 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by Gregory Perrilloux, 53, of Reserve and a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by 58-year-old Lynn S. Taravella of Destrehan. According to State Police, the Nissan was traveling eastbound on River Road at a high rate of speed when the driver crossed the center line of the two lane roadway striking the Toyota driven by Taravella head on as she headed in the opposite direction.

The Perrilloux of the Nissan suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Taravella, the driver of the Toyota, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken the St. Charles Parish Hospital for treatment.

Joseph Piglia, Spokesman for State Police Troop B, said speed is being considered as a factor in the crash and impairment on the part of the Nissan is undetermined pending toxicology reports. Troopers said Perrilloux was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

An hour after the accident occurred, the owner of the Nissan, Kayla S. Kennedy of Reserve, reported the 2006 Nissan Sentra stolen. Further information obtained by the state police revealed that Kennedy did not know the driver who allegedly stole her car.

Senior Trooper A. Rickmeier is continuing his investigation into the accident.
