Speed cited in car crash that killed 2 teens

Speed was a factor in the one-car crash that claimed the lives of two girls on St. Rose Ave., Louisiana State Troop B spokesman Joseph Piglia said.

Passenger Miranda Walker, 16, of St. Rose, and driver Tiffany Allen, 17, of Laplace, were heading north in a Ford Mustang convertible when Allen tried to pass another car, reaching 70 mph in a 55 zone on May 31.

The car left the road, flipping end over end before stopping upside down in three feet of water. Allen and Walker were pronounced dead on the scene, state police said.
