Move makes St. Pierre Parish President
Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux conceded the St. Charles Parish Presidency to V.J. St. Pierre at a press conference on Oct. 24.
After kicking the numbers around, Faucheux said he would have been forced to take a hard-line approach to have any chance of winning the Nov.17 run-off.
“That is just something I’m not prepared to do,” Faucheux said. “We ran a great race, a clean race. People voted for a change — a fresh face, and I accept that.”
Faucheux, who has served as a councilman for the past eight years, and whose term expires Jan.1, pledged his knowledge and support to the St. Pierre administration.
“It’s time to move this parish forward,” he said. “This election was clean, it was about issues, and I think we set an example for all other contest of this sort to follow. The citizens of St. Charles Parish identified in this election that they wanted change and they identified that change through V.J. St. Pierre.”
St. Pierre was thankful for Faucheux’s decision and was impressed with the way the councilman went about it.
“Of course I am excited and thrilled about hearing this news,” St. Pierre said. “I’m sure Mr. Faucheux and his family would appreciate the parish’s kindness and understanding at this time. I’d like him to know that I admire him for the way he handled the situation.”
