On either late Sunday night or early Monday morning, the Tropical Fish and More pet shop in Boutte experienced a break in. The owner suffered the loss of $700 from the previous day’s earnings, and 10red-tailed baby boas worth about $100 dollars each.
This loss of $1,700 is very unfortunate for the local and beloved pet shop. The owner locked up on Sunday night as usual and he thought his items were safe and sound behind the locked door. Sadly, this was not to be the case as when the owner returned on Monday morning, the police were already at the store alarming him to a great degree. When the owner took inventory he found himself to be at a loss of $700 dollars and his supply of red tailed boa constrictors.
“Whoever did this definitely knew what they wanted beforehand,” stated Adam Morales, the owner. “They simply took advantage of the opportunity of the situation.”
While there is no trace of where the thief or the snakes are, there is not much need to worry for your or someone else’s safety, as the snakes are merely babies and are classified as non-lethal reptiles. Therefore the thief cannot endanger anyone else’s life with the stolen snakes.
This leaves the question of what he intended to do with them; the question of his initial motives. Was the thief after the money first and just suddenly decided to take the snakes as an afterthought, or is it the opposite that is true?
Why would someone take 10 non-lethal baby red-tailed boas? Is he planning to surprise someone with an elaborate Christmas gift? Or is it just a ploy to get more money, as he could easily sell them at another pet store for an increased price? Either way, the Tropical Fish and More pet shop is at a loss this holiday season as Santa will not be bringing those baby snakes back.
