Sheriff’s Office warns of fake $100 bills circulating

Fake hundred dollar bills have been circulating after a Hahnville High School student purchased them over the internet and distributed them at school as part of an apparent joke Tuesday, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Two other students apparently attempted to use the fake bills, one used at the Sonic restaurant in Luling and one at Hahnville High School.

Twenty nine of the bills have been seized, but seventy one were still unaccounted for as of Wednesday afternoon.

“We’re warning everyone to please be vigilant when accepting $100 bills,” St. Charles Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Patrick Yoes said.

He said the fake bills will feel different than other bills. At top of the front and back of the fake bills reads “for motion picture only” and when held up to light, there is no security tape.

Anyone who comes into contact with any of the fake bills described is asked by the Sheriff’s Office to contact Lt. David Ehrmann at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807.
