Cost parish $7,000 to repair

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a four-wheel pickup truck caught on video vandalizing the drainage ditches on East Heather and Willowdale Boulevard in Luling.

The truck appears to pull up into the ditch, and accelerate the engine spinning  its tires, fishtailing in such a manner as to rip up the grass, water and mud, throwing it from under the truck’s spinning tires.

The incident occurred at 1 a.m. last Wednesday after heavy rain.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said this is not a laughing matter.

“Every time this occurs it costs you the taxpayer money,” Champagne said. “The parish has to send manpower and equipment out there to make repairs, and this isn’t the first time it’s happened.”

The parish’s Public Works Department spent  $7,000 to repair the revine at East Heather and Willowdale Boulevard, including equipment, materials and personnel with about 30 man hours spent, according to Renee Simpson, public information officer for St. Charles Parish.

Champagne said anyone with information is asked to contact 911.
