Shelley Tastet announces candidacy for District 2 councilman seat

Shelley Tastet, a life long resident of St. Charles Parish, is announcing his candidacy for the District 2 councilman, soon to be vacated, by Brian Fabre.

Tastet has been a commisissoner on the Lafourche Basin Levee Board for the past seven years and has served as its president during the year of Katrina.

“I have the levee experience needed to secure permits,” Tastet told the Herald-Guide.

“I worked closely with the Army Corps of Engineers and I know what it takes to move things forward when it comes to levee projects.”

Tastet has worked with federal, state, and local officials to bring forth issues concerning the lack of levee protection.

“My knowledge and experience will make me an asset to the St. Charles Parish council,” he said.

Tastet is a graduate of Hahnville High School, attended Nicholls State Universtiy, and served two years in the United States Army.

Currently retired, he worked for Oxy-Chemical and Nixon Chemical for 34 years.

“I’m a member of the Knights of Columbus,” he said.

Tastet resides in the Willowdale area with his wife of 30 years Mary. The couple has two children Brooks and Gretchen.
