Seven St. Charles Parish stores were cited by the Sheriff’s Office for selling alcohol or tobacco to minors during a recent undercover operation.
Juvenile operatives were sent to 35 locations throughout the parish on Friday, June 6 in an attempt to purchase alcohol or tobacco. The young operatives succeeded in illegally purchasing the products at several stores throughout the parish.
Each of the clerks that sold alcohol or tobacco products to the underage operatives were issued a misdemeanor summons.
Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the compliance checks are done periodically and he was impressed with the 28 stores whose cashiers refused to sell to minors.
