Search for St. John murder suspect in Killona turns up nothing

Earlier this week Killona residents said deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office were scouring their community in search of a St. John the Baptist Parish murder suspect.

Deputies were searching for 33-year-old Edgard resident Demond Baker, who is wanted in association with the early morning slaying of 23-year-old Ralph Thomas on Sunday, April 7.

Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer with the Sheriff’s Office, said in an email the search for Baker in Killona was fruitless.

“We assisted in checking out a lead and (that) lead that did not pan out,” he said.

A wanted notice released by St. John Parish’s Sheriff’s Office said an arrest warrant for second degree murder has been secured for Baker who is considered to be armed and dangerous and that the public should not approach him.

Baker is described as a black male with black hair who is 5’6” tall and weighs 135 pounds. His last known address is 217 Quarter Road in Edgard.

Those who may have knowledge of Baker’s whereabouts are encouraged to call St. John the Baptist Parish detectives at (985) 359-TIPS (8477) or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
