Scam forces bank to put hold on all ATM withdrawals

First National Bank USA has put a hold on all ATM withdrawals by its customers after several residents were victimized by a debit card fraud scheme.

The scam tricked the bank’s customers into giving their debit card information to an automated calling service that purported to be from First National Bank USA.

The automated service told the customers that their debit cards had been cancelled. To reinstate their cards, the automated service asked them to punch in their card number.

Ann Minnich, from First National Bank USA, said that because the thieves got a hold of the card and PIN numbers, they were able to make new cards and use them. That’s why the bank decided to halt all ATM withdrawals, likely through the weekend.
