Santa Visits Parish Early

Hands out toys to over 1200 happy children

It was more than just a Toys for Tots community outreach – it was a winter wonderland transformed into Santa’s Village.

Over 1200 bouncing children picked out Christmas toys, played games, took pictures with Santa Claus, and ate food prepared and donated by Valero.

“We do this every year,” Faye Caire, the project coordinator said. “This year we had a lot more children because of Hurricane Katrina.”

Caire says she depends on Santa’s helpers from the middle schools to support the function.

“Students from Raymond K. Smith and Harry Hurst’ Beta Club run the entire community outreach day,” she said. “They help set-up and are in charge of game tables for the children,”
The students dressed up like elves and escorted children to select gifts ranging from Barbie dolls to bicycles.
