Rumors have floated for some time about Rouses Supermarket coming to St. Charles Parish, and a landowner says the Thibodaux-based chain is actively looking for a site in the area.
Bruce Bourgeois, who owns property along with his wife, Lorna, in St. Rose, said the supermarket chain was apparently considering a site behind Plantation View Medical Offices on River Road in Destrehan, but decided not to pursue the deal.
Rouses could not be reached for comment by press time.
Bourgeois said company representatives were also “sniffing” around him about land.
“It would have taken several owners to make the deal work,” he said. Rouses also wanted elements like roads and drainage included in the package.
“It’s not over,” Bourgeois said. “But it’s a work in progress.”
Also, he said they’ve been approached by other big retailers for land, with Bourgeois emphasizing the word “big.”
“It’s only a matter of time,” he said about a new business announcement for the area.
A new 2,106 square-foot Taco Bell will soon open as part of the Bourgeois’ 65-acre development called Fairview Plantation on Airline Highway in St. Rose.
I have land in new sarpy along with others that is on airline hwy.which would be a better fir than St. Rose.
The old Winn Dixie location on Paul Maillard Rd in luling would be a good site to consider if its available.
