River Parishes Community College awarded $17 Million for development

Sorrento, LA. River Parishes Community College received $17 Million as a result of the unanimous vote of Senate Bill 337 (Act 391) that was signed by Governor Blanco in July 2007.

Senate Bill 337 provides for the financing of capital improvements and enhancements to certain facilities and properties of colleges within the Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges System (LCTCS.) More than $151.1 million was awarded to LCTCS and will be distributed, following the sale of bonds, between 14 technical and community colleges throughout Louisiana. Thanks to the efforts of a number of this area’s elected officials RPCC was included in this milestone Capital Outlay Legislation (SB337).

River Parishes Community College is a two-year learning institution, fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate Degrees.

The College continues to grow rapidly. From humble beginnings, in borrowed facilities, and with less than 100 students, RPCC enrollment is at approximately 1,200 students.

The mission of River Parishes Community College is to be an active partner with the citizens, industries, and businesses of the river parishes to enhance learning opportunities for area residents.
