Reward increases to $15,500

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is hoping that a $15,500 reward will help them solve the murder of Hilda Mae Zeringue Warren, who was found murdered in her St. Rose home on Aug. 20.

In September, some members of the St. Rose Community, along with Warren’s family and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, began a joint effort to find some answers. A press conference was held at the courthouse in Hahnville, and detectives went door to door throughout the tiny community passing out flyers. A fund was then started to collect donations that would be used to increase the Crime Stoppers reward.

The St. Rose community raised $500, St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne donated $1,000, and Crime Stoppers doubled its reward amount from $2,500 to $5,000.  A local business owner, who chose to remain anonymous, soon stretched that mark to $6,500 and now an additional $2,000 has  increased the total to $15,500.

“We continue to follow-up on information and we will continue to cover each lead,” Champagne said. “Anyone who gives information to Crime Stoppers concerning the murder will remain anonymous.”

Champagne said the caller is assigned a code and doesn’t have to give his or her name. That code is then used to identify the person who made the tip and in turn pay them their reward money.

“We haven’t had any more leads since the increase of the reward,” Champagne said. “I’m asking everyone, if you have any information about Hilda Warren’s murder, to come forward.”

Anyone who has information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111.
