Revamped real estate, classified sections make buying, selling easy

Online home search, free classified ads highlight changes

The Herald-Guide has revamped both its classified and real estate sections to make both buying a home and selling items easier for residents of St. Charles Parish.

For the first time ever, the Herald-Guide now has a separate section for real estate and regular classifieds.

Now in full color, the real estate section has all the real estate transactions for the prior week. Readers will also find pictures and information on the area’s featured homes as well as tons of other information from local real estate businesses such as Prudential Gardner, Coldwell Banker, Latter & Blum, the Kinler Bellew team and ERA Stirling Properties.

“St. Charles Parish is a wonderful place to live with a lot of great opportunities,” Classified Sales Manager Sonia Duhe said. “We thought we could highlight the area by showing the wonderful homes that are for sale here.”

The Herald-Guide didn’t just add a section in the paper, but totally redesigned the website to make room for an online version.

By visiting the front page of www.heraldguide.com, readers will be able to see the featured homes online and can also click on each home to be taken directly to the realtors’ websites. From there, readers can view each of the homes in greater detail while also getting a chance to browse other houses for sale in the area. Advanced search functions on each of the realtors’ sites also allows people to sort through area homes based on size, price and location.

Of course, the popular transactions section is also online, with a search function that allows readers to find out how much homes sold for during the past year. Now, interested homebuyers, or sellers, can see the price of homes in every neighborhood and area of the parish.

“The realtors are our partners and we want to help them market their homes,” Duhe said. “Tying the newspaper section in with the web just helps to complete the picture.
“We look forward to comments and suggestions.”

Right behind the real estate section is the new and improved classified section. The biggest feature of this section is that readers can email and fax in anything they want to sell for free.

“Right now, there is no place in the parish to go if you want to sell things such as lawnmowers, bikes or other items you would find at a garage sale,” Duhe said. “We want people to have a place like that, and this section is like having a garage sale everyday.”

Like the real estate section, the classified section has been made more user-friendly and will tie in directly to the web.

To place their free classified ad, private parties only need to either drive in the ad to the Herald-Guide office at 14236 Hwy. 90, Boutte, or email it to torint@heraldguide.com. The ads can also be faxed in to 985-758-7000. The Herald-Guide would prefer if those wishing to place an ad would choose one of these routes instead of calling the office.

For commercial classified rates send an email to soniad@heraldguide.com.
