Repeat offender arrested for animal cruelty

After repeat offences for animal cruelty, Carl Lewis, 25, of 835 E. Macadoo St., New Sarpy, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on Aug. 10. Lewis was found to be in possession of a malnourished and underweight Pit-Bull while he was currently on probation for animal cruelty.

Lewis, who had been charged with animal cruelty in the past, was ordered by officials not to possess any animals as a condition of his parole.  St. Charles Parish Deputies observed a Pit-Bull at Lewis’ residence.  The dog was living in poor conditions outside with no food or water.

The dog was transported to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter for evaluation at which time a staff veterinarian determined that the dog was malnourished, underweight, was suffering from discharge from its eyes and was diagnosed with hookworms and heartworms.
