Registered sex offender accused of tying up sister, fleeing

A Luling man accused of tying up and imprisoning his sister before stealing a family vehicle was arrested last week by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, Chester Barber, 61 and of 609 Paul Fredrick St. in Luling, tied the woman up and padlocked the door of her residence to keep her inside.

He then stole the vehicle of her ex-husband. Barber apparently drove the vehicle to Franklin, where he crashed it and fled the scene.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office put out a warrant for Barber on the charges of simple battery, false imprisonment and theft of a motor vehicle.

Barber is a registered sex offender according to the Sheriff’s Office website’s sex offenders registry.

A court arraignment is set Oct. 26. He is being held in Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility on a bond of $40,000.
