Hunt is on for man accused of brutally beating and raping his wife, kidnapping her kids
A local woman that was allegedly beaten and raped by her husband says that she went through a similar ordeal a little over a month before, and the combination of both attacks has left her depressed and unable to work.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for Lionel E. Raymond, who goes by the nickname “Loc.” According to Sheriff Greg Champagne, Raymond was responsible for both sexually and physically assaulting his wife on July 31.
The victim was sleeping when her husband forced his way into her home and began hitting her in the face. The woman sustained numerous facial injuries.
“He then sexually assaulted her and made continued threats towards her,” Champagne said.
The victim says that she told Raymond that she had to go to work in an attempt to make him leave after the attack. Raymond made her call her supervisor on speakerphone.
“I told my supervisor that I couldn’t come in because of a personal problem and she told me that I could be late, but I needed to come in,” the victim said. “When I heard her say that, I knew that I would be able to get away from him and that my supervisor would see how badly I was hurt when I got there.”
After Raymond drove the woman to her job, he made her get out the car and he drove off with her three children, according to the victim. Raymond then left the kids in the car on the side of the road in Lafourche Parish.
“My 10-year-old got tired of sitting in the car and he gathered up my other two kids and they started walking,” the victim said.
At that point, an employee of Entergy saw the children walking and picked them up, their mother said. The man took them to eat at McDonald’s and called the Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after that, the woman was reunited with her children.
The attack left the woman with a hemorrhage in her brain, but she says a CAT scan showed that she didn’t need surgery. Her eyes were also bruised shut.
“Still, I have to sleep with my head at a certain elevation and I am just now able to drive because the swelling in my eyes went down,” the woman said. “I’m coming along.”
But this wasn’t the first time that the woman was attacked by her husband.
The two were married on May 6 of 2007, and at first, everything seemed fine. However, the woman says that when she went out and purchased a new car in February of 2008, her husband got extremely jealous.
“We had just been married for a little over a year, but in June, he just changed,” the victim said.
On June 18, the victim says she was forced to get a restraining order against Raymond after he attacked her.
“He tried to smother me with a pillow and then he choked me,” she said. “He also punched me on the side of the head and bit me on my left calf.”
And that’s not all. The victim also claims that Raymond took $17,000 from her in Road Home money.
“We weren’t even married when the storm hit,” she said. “The police said that since he was my husband when I got the money I can’t do anything about it.”
She could really use that money now.
“This has got me out of work and the first of the month just came up and I have bills,” the victim said. “I also have to get my kids ready for school and get them what they need. I’m just depressed. The attack has crippled me.”
Raymond will be charged with kidnapping, first degree battery and rape when he is apprehended. He is also wanted on kidnapping charges by the Harahan Police Department.
Anyone with information on Raymond’s whereabouts should contact the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 783-6807 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-903-7867.
Raymond’s wife believes that he is hiding out somewhere in Lafourche Parish.
