When it comes to quality work, Galen Guidry of Today’s Car Care says experience and qualifications are musts — and that his staff is deep in both qualities.
“I employ multiple master technicians and have the best quality control of any shop in the area,” said Guidry. “For example, our collision center painter has over 30 years experience. And I grew up in this business and have more than 35 years of experience doing this in our community. I’ve been on this highway my whole life.”
Even given that experience, Guidry is quick to note the business always evolves, and as such, continuous training is necessary in order to stay on top of the game. Ditto when it comes to equipment—it has to be top of the line in order to ensure those trusting Today’s Car Care with their vehicles do encounter first class repairs, be it on the mechanical side or in the collision center.
“Certification doesn’t last forever,” Guidry said, noting technicians must re-test every five years to be certified and up to date. “A lot of guys advertise certified techs when that’s not the case. And when you have trained and skilled technicians, it makes a world of difference. It costs more to hire them, but it’s worth the investment when it comes to getting it done and getting it right.”
Guidry has invested in his staff by paying for them to go through training classes, where his employees can meet others in the field and learn and vice versa.
“It’s all about continual education,” Guidry said.
It’s been a little over two years since Today’s Car Care moved from Boutte into a more spacious building in Luling that enabled the business to expand its work, including the opening of the aforementioned collision center. Today’s Car Care provides full service to its customers, enabling them to avoid the hassle of multiple stops – it can all be taken care of there.
Guidry went into his line of work following in the footsteps of his father, who he began working for at the age of 12.
He believes one reason his business has thrived over the years is his belief in treating customers right, particularly being honest and forthcoming from the first meeting.
“My method keeps people coming,” he said. “If you explain things honestly, even a customer who disagrees with you at first comes back, because they realize, ‘OK, this guy sounds like he has my best interests at heart.’”
