P&Z member running for District 3 council seat in St. Charles Parish

A Destrehan resident for more than 20 years, Dick Gibbs has announced he is seeking the District 3 seat on the St. Charles Parish Council.

“Positive change is always good for a community and, while I believe our property and sales taxes are high, I will work to reduce these burdens and put money back in your pockets,” Gibbs said.

The election is Oct. 24.

Councilwoman Wendy Benedetto represents District 3, but has served two terms in office and cannot seek re-election.

Gibbs’ experience includes being a member of the parish Planning and Zoning Commission for two terms. Of those eight years, he served as commission chairman for seven years.

“District 3 needs a strong leader who can come to the table with ideas, not ideology; I look forward to being an independent voice on the council, and will represent our entire parish, including our youth, our seniors, our diverse communities and neighborhoods throughout the third district,” he said. “I have had considerable success as a businessman over the years and I know what it takes to balance budgets and develop strong profit-and-loss statements.”

Gibbs said being a part of the Destrehan community has contributed to his life’s successes.

“I believe it’s time for me to continue to give more back to our community as your councilman,” he said. “I consider serving on the council not as politics, but as public service. I want to do all I can to contribute to preserving all that’s great about St. Charles Parish, and to making it an even better place to live, work and raise a family in the future.”

Gibbs said, while he wasn’t born in the parish, he chose it to plant roots.

“It was a great choice for me and my family, and I want to make sure becomes an even better choice for our children and our future grandchildren.”
