Purse-snatcher charged with armed burglary

A Luling man recently arrested and held with a $430,000 bond has a lengthy criminal history, according to police reports.

Charles M. Baloney, 20, of 827 Milling Ave., Apt. 2, Luling, was charged with aggravated burglary and illegal possession of a firearm after a Sept.20, incident when he forced his way into the home of a Boutte man, authorities said.

Baloney was captured the next day, Sept. 21, when he attempted to steal a purse from a customer at a CVS store in Luling. Baloney allegedly shoved a detective while trying to escape, causing her to hit her head on a post. She was treated and released from St. Charles Parish Hospital.

According to St. Charles Parish spokesman Capt. Patrick Yoes, Charles Baloney’s record began in April 2005 with an arrest of simple burglary of an uninhabited dwelling.

“In 2006, Baloney was arrested three more times, and the charges are similar to the most recent crimes he was arrested for in 2007,” Yoes said.

Baloney has been charged with

simple robbery, second degree battery, battery of a police officer, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, simple criminal damage under $500, and resisting the arrest of a police officer.
