Police seeking information on Taft/Hahnville area shooting

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance as a result of a shooting which occurred Sunday, July 24, around 8 P.M. along LA Highway 3127 between Taft and Hahnville.

Deputies were dispatched to the area just after 8 P.M. based on a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway and a subject laying on the ground in the roadway. When deputies arrived at the location, they located two male subjects with gunshot wounds. Davin Dwight Labranch Jr., a 25-year-old male from the Westwego area, was found deceased inside the vehicle. Jalen Jupiter, a 20-year-old male from the Luling area, received first aid from deputies and was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. A third subject was uninjured.

Through investigation, detectives have learned that all three subjects were traveling in Labranch’s 2008 gray Audi A5 on Highway 3127 after leaving a gathering at the Killona Fire Station. Evidence from the location suggests that shots were exchanged between someone in Labranch’s car and an unknown second vehicle.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives located a large sum of cash as well as narcotics in Labranch’s vehicle.

This is an ongoing active investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Detective Jenni Barrette with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at jbarrette@stcharlessheriff.org, (985) 783- 6807, or (985) 783-1135. Citizens may also contact CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-877-903-STOP. Citizens do not have to give their name nor testify and could receive up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
