Police: Luling man injured by drunk driver

A 42-year-old Slidell man was charged with vehicular negligent injuring after crashing into the back of another vehicle near the intersection of Willowdale Boulevard and East Heather Street late Sunday night, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say that Charles Harding Jr., of 2400 Jay St., was intoxicated when he ran his Chrysler 300 into the back of a Ford Mustang driven by a  Luling man. Harding’s vehicle didn’t suffer much damage in the crash, but the Ford Mustang was totaled.

“The driver of the Ford Mustang actually had to be extricated from the car because the crash caused his doors to jamb,” Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a spokesman with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “The driver was in serious condition after the accident and he was transported to Kenner Regional Hospital.”

LaGrange said that because of the damage that was done to the Mustang, it appears that Harding was speeding at the time of the wreck.

Along with being charged with a second-offense DWI and vehicular negligent injuring, Harding was also ticketed for not wearing his seatbelt.
