Police ID body found in spillway

Foul play suspected

The body recently discovered in the Bonnet Carre Spillway was positively identified as Estelle Webb, 88, of New Orleans, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On May 4, work crews with the CN Railroad notified the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office of a body in Lake Pontchartrain just west of the entrance canal to the lower section in the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway in Norco.

The Louisiana State Police Laboratory positively matched DNA from the body and DNA collected from Webb’s personal items from her residence at 8716 Heaton Street in New Orleans.

According to St. Charles Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes, police knew the body might be identified as Webb’s, as the woman had been reported as missing to the New Orleans Police Department prior to her body being found. But investigators could not be sure until receiving the results of the DNA test.

It is believed Webb’s body was in the water for approximately two to three days.

Yoes said foul play is suspected. New Orleans Police Department Homicide is taking primary lead in this investigation, while St. Charles Parish detectives are providing assistance to NOPD.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact NOPD or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Citizens do not have to give their name nor testify and could receive up to $2,500.
