Police: Dancer struck with brass knuckles for refusing to smile

A teenage girl’s refusal to smile for a dance studio team photo allegedly resulted in a fist fight, brass knuckles and a hospital visit.

Latanya Dunmiles, 36, of 1178 Estates Drive in Luling, was recently arrested after she allegedly brought a teenage family member to the home of another dancer, intending to provoke a physical confrontation stemming from a disagreement over the noted team photo.

Dunmiles was arrested Feb. 7 after a warrant was issued following the incident. She is charged with principal to second-degree battery and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, an argument took place after a dancer at the studio chose not to smile for a group picture.

That reportedly prompted Dunmiles to bring her family member to the Luling residence of that dancer, also a teenager. According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi, a video of the altercation surfaced that apparently showed the juvenile who accompanied Dunmiles using brass knuckles against the other teen. Dunmiles and an adult at the residence also were involved in a fist fight.

One of the victims was admitted for hospital treatment following the altercation, Grimaldi said.
