Police chase causes school lock down

An attempted traffic stop by Louisiana State Police on I-310 turned into a police chase and school lockdown at about 10:43 a.m. today (Feb. 4).

State Police brought the vehicle to a stop at LA 48 and South Destrehan Avenue and two occupants fled the scene, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

One subject, who has not identified, was apprehended.

Harry M. Hurst Middle School and the East Bank Headstart nearby were put in a brief “soft lock down” as a safety precaution during the chase.

School officials say there was no immediate danger to the campus or students. A soft lock down means gates and exterior doors are locked with no outside movement, but supervised interior movement is permissible.

The incident is under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
