A 62-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a dump truck while trying to cross Highway 90 in Des Allemands, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Rodney Gautreaux, 49, of Thibodaux, was driving a 2006 Mack dump truck when he hit Joseph Solar as he drove east in the right lane at 5:44 a.m. on May 13.
Solar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Solar, whose last known address was in Gonzales, had tried crossing from the westbound side to the eastbound side of Highway 90 near the Des Allemands Bridge on the Lafourche Parish side, spokesman Trooper Bryan Zerinque said.
No charges were filed against Gautreaux, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and passed a breathalyzer test, Zerinque said.
Gautreaux did give a blood sample for a routine toxicology test and results are still pending.
The accident investigation slowed morning traffic for drivers in both St. Charles and Lafourche parishes.
