Pedestrian dies after getting struck by truck near Pier 90

A North Carolina man was killed early Saturday morning after he was struck by a truck near Pier 90 in Luling while walking on Highway 90.

According to State Police, 46-year-old Wadie Willis was in the right lane of travel when he was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by Tremaine Leday, 32, of Lafayette. Willis was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police do not believe that Leday was speeding or impaired before the accident, but he did submit to both chemical and toxicology tests. Toxicology results for Willis will be taken during the autopsy and the crash remains under investigation.

Spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey urged both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings.

“Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible,” Matey said. “Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing, and stay out of travel lanes at all times.”
