Paul Maillard wreck kills one

At about 12:03 a.m. today (April 2), the Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on LA 52 near Luling Street in Boutte that claimed the life of a Waggaman woman.

The initial investigation led investigators to determine the crash occurred as 49-year-old Waggaman resident Evelina Davis Diggs was riding a 2016 Can Am Spyder (three-wheel motorcycle) north on LA 52 near Luling Street, according to State Police.

For reasons still under investigation, Diggs’ vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a 2014 Toyota Camry driven by 26-year-old Dajahl Novian White of Ama.

Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Diggs sustained severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office.

White and his front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Anashia Lebeauf, also of Ama, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to State Police.  They were transported to St. Charles Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
