Parish’s highway improvements include I-310 upgrades in 2019

More than $4.4 million in highway work is planned or underway in St. Charles Parish by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

Portions of I-310 in Luling will be repaved in work expected to cost about $2.5 million. Bids will be taken in September with work expected to begin two to three months after that.

Chris Morvant, district engineer administrator for District 2, said the work also includes restriping from I-310 to U.S. 90 with the exception of portions of the road upgraded during the Luling bridge project.

Because the work will be mostly done at night, he doesn’t anticipate major traffic interruption.

Also, work is on track to begin adding a turn lane on both sides of Barton Avenue in Luling in the first quarter of 2019, Morvant said. The estimated $300,000 project is aimed at easing the heavily trafficked roadway.

Morvant said the DOTD is proceeding with adding a left turn lane on U.S. Highway 90 near Pier 90, an estimated $750,000 project. The department has been working with parish government on the project, aimed at improving access for the boat launch, as well as improving traffic access overall on the highway. DOTD will take bids on the project in July with construction expected to follow in two to three months.

In Killona, bids will be taken on adding a turn lane on LA 3141. The project, estimated at $500,000, is also aimed at easing traffic flow, allowing traffic to flow onto the highway rather than stop at the traffic light, Morvant said.
