St. Charles Parish’s public schools will be closed Monday through Thursday due to potential impacts from Tropical Storms Laura and Marco in the coming week, the parish district announced Saturday.
All school and district activities and events are cancelled. District spokeswoman Stevie Crovetto said plans are for schools and the School Board Office to reopen on Friday.
The decision was made after consultation with the St. Charles Parish EOC, Crovetto said.
On Saturday, a shift in experts’ projections indicated both storms were on course to pass through Louisiana. Both are projected to strengthen into hurricanes, with Marco estimated to make landfall on Monday and Laura by Wednesday.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and St. Charles Parish President Matt Jewell declared a state of emergency for Louisiana and the parish, respectively, on Friday.
