Parish postpones $525K site purchase for P&Z relocation

Although the St. Charles Parish government had advertised its intent to buy a 5.6-acre site in Hahnville to expand government services, the move was reversed at Monday’s council meeting.

Chief Administrative Officer Billy Raymond told the council the administration had decided not to proceed with it and requested a motion to postpone it indefinitely “since it’s no longer the direction this administration wants to go in.”

The motion passed unanimously.

Raymond also withdrew a motion to withdraw the $525,000 allocated for the purchase from the general budget.Resident Milton Allemand called it an issue that should go away forever because of the amount likely needed to renovate the location for office use.

“We’re probably looking at another half million dollars,” Allemand said of renovating the building. “It’s a good move to get rid of it. Let’s table it forever.”

When the measure was introduced earlier this month, Council Chairman Terrell Wilson and Councilman Paul Hogan maintained the money should go to levees.
