Parish included in statewide burn ban

St. Charles Parish is among the areas under a burn ban in Louisiana due to extreme dry conditions effective 2 p.m. today (Nov. 5).

State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning and Mike Strain, Agriculture and Forestry commissioner, issued a cease and desist order for all private burning, which can now only be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government.

The ban does not include Bossier, Iberville, St. Landry and St. Mary parishes.

This ban also does not include “prescribed burns” by the Agriculture Department, by those trained and certified by the Agriculture Department or  by those who conduct prescribed burning as a “generally accepted agriculture practice.”

Violation of this Fire Marshal order could result in criminal and/or civil penalties.
