Parish holds elections for political committees

Elections for St. Charles Parish Democratic and Republican Committee members will be held Feb. 9. Selected members will keep their posts from 2008 through 2011.

The committee is comprised of 14 members from each of the parish council districts and five elected at-large or parishwide members.  The committee also elects from within its ranks a chairperson, vice-chair, secretary and a treasurer.

Garret Monti, a member of the Republican Committee, is running unopposed and so is Cory M. Faucheaux, son of Councilman Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux. Both feel that the committees are needed to drum up votes for both parties.

“There will be a lot of new faces on the committee this time around,” Monti said. “The Republican committee holds political rallies to get support for the Republican candidates running in the election, and since this is an election year, I’m sure we’ll be pretty busy.”

Faucheux says the Republican Committee is put in place to support the Republican party and to strengthen the involvement of Republicans in the community by letting people know who their party affiliation is with and what candidates they will support.

“It’s an important committee, and it strengthens support for Republican candidates running for political office,” Faucheux said.

Monti says there will be an inauguration ceremony and then the committee will get to work with the residents to round up support for the Republican candidates running for office.

The Democratic committee plans to hold similar rallies. Candidates for both parties are listed below and residents can cast their ballots on Feb. 9.
