Paradis man pleads not guilty in shooting of his son and wife

The Paradis man accused of the shooting death of his son and seriously injuring his wife has pleaded not guilty.

Ed Veillon Jr., 49, of 136 Lynn Drive, has been indicted on second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. Veillon had been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.

He is accused of shooting his 15-year-old son, Seth Veillon, to death and seriously injuring his wife, Nicole, who received two gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Their son was declared dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi said Veillon apparently used a handgun in the shooting.

Deputies found Seth and Nicole Veillon both on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.

Ken Oertling, executive director of Secondary Schools with St. Charles Parish Public Schools, established a Gofundme to aid the family in funeral and medical costs.

“The oldest son went to Hahnville (High School) who I knew well and the youngest daughter was actually on my youngest daughter’s soccer team that I helped coach,” Oertling said. “The event touched me, my family and many others in the community dearly and we felt compelled to help in any way we could.”

Veillon is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona on $500,000 bond.
