Paradis crash leaves 1 dead

A 44-year-old Houma man was killed on Sunday after his vehicle ran into a ditch on Old Spanish Trail at Audubon Street in Paradis, according to Louisiana State Police.

State troopers responded to the crash at 12:50 a.m. An investigation revealed that Danny Dominick was driving a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria west on Old Spanish Trail when he veered off the road to the left for unknown reasons. The vehicle entered a ditch, causing only minor damage to the vehicle.

However, Dominick was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, State Policed said.

Investigating troopers do not suspect speed or impairment; however, toxicology results are pending the outcome of the autopsy. Troopers suspect that Dominick’s prior medical history may be a factor of the crash.

“Louisiana law requires that every single person in a motor vehicle be restrained, regardless of seating position. Louisiana State Police will continue to aggressively educate the community about the importance of seat belts,” Melissa Matey, trooper spokeswoman, said. “The primary function of a seat belt is to keep you inside the vehicle and in your seating position.”
