One dead after helicopter crash in Boutte

Authorities responded to a helicopter crash reported at 10:48 a.m. today (May 20) in marshland between Magnolia Ridge Road and U.S. Highway 90 in Boutte.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s received a call of a helicopter crash on an Entergy transmission line right-of-way in the marsh near Magnolia Ridge Road, said Sheriff Greg Champagne.

First responders accessed the scene by airboat, all terrain tracked vehicles and helicopter due to the remote location of the crash, Champagne said.

Two occupants of the helicopter, including the pilot and a passenger, were located at the crash site and transported to a local area hospital with extensive injuries. The body of a third man was found under debris. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have taken over the investigation into this crash.

Assisting agencies include Entergy crews, Paradis and Luling Fire Department, St. Charles Parish Public Works, St. Charles Parish Emergency Medical Services, U.S. Coast Guard, and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Ochsner Flight Care also provided medical services.

The Hughes 369 helicopter is owned by Air2.
