Now What?

After epic battle, Hahnville, Destrehan still face plenty of challenges as they head into heart of district schedule

Though Hahnville’s mascot is a tiger, it was Destrehan who most closely resembled LSU last Friday night, as the Wildcats clawed their way back from a 10-point, fourth-quarter defecit to pick up the double-overtime, 31-24 win. As in all rivalry games, last week’s contest was embroiled in controversy. However, neither team has the time to worry about what did or didn’t happen out on the football field. Instead, both programs must get ready for their next district contest.

After stretching their season record to a perfect 6-0, Destrehan heads out on the road to take on St. Amant, who is struggling right now with a 2-4 mark. Still though, St. Amant has a strong offense, and managed to put up 57 points in a win over St. Charles Catholic. Plus, St. Amant is always dangerous at home and Destrehan will have to avoid a let-down after last week’s rivalry slugfest.

If the Wildcats make it past St. Amant, they still have to face East St. John, East Ascension, and Dutchtown.

Meanwhile, Hahnville will return home where they will host East Ascension, who is 3-3 on the year. The Spartans, who lost their first district game of the season by falling to Dutchtown 35-7, will be looking to bounce back against the Tigers. However, that’s easier said than done, and the Hahnville defense proved that they are a powerful force even in last week’s defeat to Destrehan.

Hahnville will need that defense and emergent offense down the stretch, as they still have big games left with Dutchtown, East St. John, and St. Amant.
