New charcuterie board and lunch spot opens in Norco

Charcuterie boards have grown in popularity in recent years, and one local woman has taken her home-grown board business and turned it into Norco’s newest retail food establishment.

Montz resident Monica Carruth started Bluebird Boards in 2021, and ever since her Facebook page has been filled with colorful pictures of her culinary creations.

“I really just started making them for friends and family, but as I started bringing them to different gatherings and events people kept telling me, ‘You should make these and sell them,’” she remembers. “They got a little more popular than I expected.”

Up until recently Carruth was a full-time employee who sold boards on the side, but then she started to think of turning her side business into something more.

First up was to find a place, and Carruth said that and everything else about the business – Bluebird Boards & More – fell seamlessly into place.

“Once I started thinking about this several months ago I just literally couldn’t get it out of my head,” she said. “I wanted our community to have fresh and affordable charcuterie boards right here at home and people want new lunch options. So often healthy food is so expensive, but we want to offer light to-go lunch options and rotate in weekly specials. We’ll have fun, healthy, and affordable lunch options that people can pop in and take to-go. There’s nothing like this around here.”

The business – located at 15616 River Road, Suite B in Norco – is open now for board orders. Lunch will be served by the end of the month.

“The building we’re in is a quaint little corner shop that was built in the early 1900s,” she said. “It has tons of character. It was originally built as a bank and the space where I’ll have the check-out counter is the spot where the vault used to be from the bank.”

Carruth said future plans include private cheese tasting parties.
