Norco takes center stage in TNT drama

Last week, and for the second straight year, Norco played its role in the region’s growing reputation as “Hollywood South.”

The TNT series “Tell Me Your Secrets” set up shop in Norco to shoot more scenes for the suspense drama’s first season, and just like last year, the film crew found the Apple Street Diner in Norco as the ideal stage for the story they will tell when the series ultimately airs.

A film crew for the show initially chose the restaurant last September and began shooting scenes for the show there almost immediately.

The drama has since been retitled from its original series name, “Deadlier than the Male.”

Last Monday (July 25), an Apple Street Diner representative posted to the restaurant’s Facebook wall that it would be closed the remainder of that week due to the filming of the television show, which is described by TNT as an “intense, morally complex thriller about three damaged people trying to start over.”

Apple Street Diner owner Adam Bragdon said the film crew is set to return for two or three more visits for filming before the end of the year. He’s also been told that exterior shots of the diner could be used in what will be the opening montage for each episode.

“It’s really been a blessing,” said Bragdon, who worked in the film industry himself previously. “To have been in that world before and (for the series to film at the diner) now, it brings things kind of full circle.”

Last week’s filming was for episode two, he said, while the next run of filming will likely be for episodes six or seven.

As filming goes on at the diner, the crew temporarily redecorates it for the filming of the show in order to set an atmosphere reflecting an older time period. Bragdon said while the actual filming of scenes took just a day, the transformation was what kept the diner’s doors closed for the rest of the week.

Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Amy Brenneman (The Leftovers) and Hamish Linklater (Fantastic Four) have been cast as central characters of the show, each of whom has a mysterious past. The show will also star Enrique Murciano (Without A Trace), Ashley Madekwe (Salem), Elliot Fletcher (Shameless), Chiara Aurelia (Pretty Little Liars) and Bryant Tardy (Logan).

Other sites where filming occurred in Norco included the 100 block of Good Hope Street, and 115 Diamond St.

The air date of season one has yet to be determined.
