Video showed group holding AK-47 guns, threatening cops
A video depicting a group of residents showing off AK-47 assault rifles and allegedly threatening to harm a person, as well as police officials, led to seven arrests.
Deputy detectives discovered the video on an Internet site that is used primarily by teens called MySpace.
A press conference was held by St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne in Hahnville detailing the case and the arrests.
Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, says when detectives discovered the video they were actually looking for something else.
“We were actually working another case, and looking to resolve it, when we saw this incident on MySpace,” he said. “If we see something that’s potentially a threat to someone’s public safety, we will make an arrest.”
LaGrange says residents need to know that the Sheriff’s Office does monitor the Internet for criminal activity.
“We wanted to make sure we brought it to the forefront of our local media outlets,” he said. “These are the things that kids are doing and sometimes parents don’t know about them.”
According to LaGrange, the parents in this case were arrested because the weapons that were displayed on the MySpace video were found in a vehicle at their home.
Champagne stated in the press conference that threats were made against an individual person and police officials in both Jefferson and St. Charles parishes.
“Two of the people that were holding AK-47 guns discussed the shooting of an individual and any ‘St. Charles Parish cops or JP (Jefferson Parish) cops’ that would try and stop them,” Champagne said. “The Sheriff’s Office later obtained a search warrant and recovered the gun, which was allegedly stolen from a location in Jefferson Parish.”
The investigation led to seven arrests and charges ranging from criminal conspiracy to commit first degree murder, narcotics violations, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of stolen firearms and possession of a weapon by convicted felons.
The bonds ranged from $2,500 to $200,000.
Arrested were Joshua Riley, 27, 248 Meadows Drive, Michael Harris, 18, 254 Meadows Drive, Nedra Dabney, 45, 235 Meadows Drive, Larry Dabney, 50, 235 Meadows Drive, Johnell Mott, 19, 208 Ormond Village, David Lee Isaac III, 19, 244 Meadows Drive and Larry Banks, 18, 235 Meadows Drive.
