Murder victim found in burned car identified as Des Allemands native

Des Allemands native Lindsay Nichols has been identified as the woman found in a burning car at the intersection of Michoud and Lake Forest boulevards in New Orleans East on Sunday.

New Orleans Coroner Jeffrey Rouse said Nichols, 31, died from one or more gunshot wounds.

Nichols’ body was found about 8:35 a.m. Sunday in the trunk of a burning vehicle in New Orleans East.

Firefighters who extinguished the fire found the woman’s burned body in the trunk, according to news reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police spokesman Officer Garry Flot said in a news release that a caller reported the car fire to police about 7 a.m. Sunday. Flot reported firefighters put out the fire then found the body.

Nichols’ identity was released once the coroner notified relatives.
