The Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) is expanding its range to assist motorists in need to include those in St. Charles, St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes.

The expanded service area includes an additional 35 miles of I-10 from US 61/Airline Hwy (Exit 187) near Gramercy to Loyola Dr. (Exit 221) in Kenner, according to a St. John Parish press release.

MAP workers will be available and on call seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day.

Services provided are free of charge and include providing a gallon of fuel; changing a flat tire; jump starting a vehicle; filling a radiator with water and providing use of a cellular phone so one can make a local call for additional assistance, if needed.

MAP is estimated to assist an average of 600 motorists per week.

It allows motorists to call a number and seek assistance when problems arise.

MAP also assists first responders with incident management.

The program also serves New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Shreveport-Bossier City.

Motorists can contact MAP by dialing *LSP (*577) from any phone. For emergencies, motorists should call 911.
