Morning accident claims life of Hahnville man

A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 47-year-old Hahnville man Tuesday morning, according to Louisiana State Police.

Chaquen Johnson died as result of the injuries suffered in the accident, which occurred on LA 18 at LA 3160 in Hahnville, according to State Police spokeswoman Melissa Matey.

Matey said Johnson was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala north on LA 3160, approaching LA 18. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled across LA 18 at a high rate of speed before going over the levee and into a ditch. The Chevrolet became airborne and flipped several times, partially ejecting Johnson. Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt and speed is suspected to be a factor in the accident, Matey said. She added impairment is not suspected, however a toxicology test will be performed during an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.
