More folks out of work in SCP – but state figures are downright peachy

Unemployment edged up in St. Charles Parish in March with state officials reporting a rate of 4.3 percent for the month compared with February’s 4 percent. Specifically, in March, 854 people were unemployed – in February, 791 were unemployed, that’s a difference of 63 people.

State figures were better. According to the Louisiana Department of Labor, the state gained 66,900 seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs between March 2006 and March 2007, bringing the total number of jobs in the state to 1,904,2000.

Educational and health services contributed the most jobs – a respectable 15,500 – to the annual gain. Industries added 4,900 jobs with the leisure and hospitality sector leading the way with 2,200 jobs.
