Montz man killed Wednesday in Airline Highway wreck

A 47-year-old Montz man was killed in a two-vehicle crash around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Airline Highway in St. Charles Parish.

Frederick Bailey III was killed when the Yamaha YZFR he was operating east on Airline Highway (U.S. 61) struck a 2011 Chevrolet HHR that pulled out of East Harding Street and attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway, according to State Police.

Both Bailey and the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the Chevrolet, which was driven by Cliff Williams, 38, of Destrehan.

Although wearing a helmet, Bailey was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office. Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

According to State Police, impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the accident. Williams submitted to a breath test and was cleared of alcohol involvement. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Bailey.

The accident remains under investigation by State Police.
